AstroNots is created (almost) entirely by me, Mark Van Ee. Almost meaning I write, voice, animate, and edit everything myself. The character designs were handled by Peter Slavik, with music composed by Bryce Janssens.
AstroNots was first conceived back in 2018 while I was producing animation for Rick and Morty season four. A colleague of mine designed the characters for me, but I didn't have the skills or time to animated it myself. So that's where it sat for years until 2023 when I was laid off like so many others in our industry. The timing was actually perfect with the arrival of my 1st child. Once she got old enough for daycare, I still hadn't found a job that I was excited about. My incredibly supportive (and perfect) wife convinced me to use my free time to teach myself the programs I'd need to bring my show to life. A few months later, I had my first episode and continue to grind on new material everyday.
